Technology for Production of Intercalated Redox Battery

University of Lviv offers the optimal technology for the production of intercalated redox battery which relates to electric double-layer capacitors.
The technology does not provide the special requirements for safety and labour protection. It doesn't cause harm to the environment and doesn't require the use of expensive and toxic materials

Опис пропозиції:
The technology is developed for the production of intercalated redox battery which provides a discharge current of 2.0 A/g (C=106 A*h /kg) and gives a capacity of 2900 F/g (W=l 10W *h/kg) and works on the base of reversible current formation process in electrolyte solution.
Taking into account the availability and industrial support, the activated carbon is the basic material which is obtained by activation carbonization of benzene styrene copolymer and wood.
The technology can be used for developing autonomous power sources for different purposes (for electronics, aerospace engineering, automotive and shipbuilding industries, household appliances).
The intercalated redox battery, developed according to the proposed technology, can also be applied for the generation of strong low-frequency signals, the system of condenser start of internal combustion engine and in electromobile engineering.
The technology allows to develop the intercalated redox battery which is several times more powerful than existing analogues and also provides a greater number of charge/discharge cycles. It has, in particular, 4 times higher specific capacitance per activated carbon material weight, measured with the discharge current of 2,0 A/h, than the hybrid electrochemical capacitor of C│H2SO4│PbO2 system.

Three main types of electrochemical capacitors are the following:
• double electric layer capacitors which include the various types of organic and aqueous solutions of electrolytes and ideally polarized electrodes made of activated carbon;
• so called pseudo capacitors, the capacity of which is provided by pseudocapacity caused by the Faraday processes of hydrogenation/dehydrogenation of ruthenium oxides;
• hybrid ultracapacitors, the electrolyte system of which is located between non¬polarized positive and polarized negative electrode.
However, the electrode energy capacity which is greater than 35*h/kg is not provided in such electrochemical capacitors.
The intercalated redox battery has higher specific capacitance than hermetic lead-acid battery, similar characteristics as nickel-cadmium and nickel-metal hydride batteries and is inferior to lithium-ion batteries.
The technology has reached the highest level in the area of new power source development.
According to the obtained results, the new competitive power source can be developed. It will be used instead of environmentally damaging lead and nickel-cadmium batteries.

The developed technology for the production of intercalated redox battery enables to provide the following technical characteristics and parameters:
• Specific capacity of not less than 100 A*h/kg based on the weight of two electrodes;
• Specific energy capacity of not less than W = 100 W*h/kg based on the weight of two electrodes;
• Power of not less than 1000 W/kg;
• Cycle capacity of 3 * 104 charge/discharge cycles;
• Lower cost
