Determination of heat of combustion is performed by two methods: computational method (the component content of natural gas, which is determined by gas chromatography) and the experimental method (using a water calorimeter). These methods have several disadvantages definitions, most important of which is the high price of equipment for control, the inability to determine the heat of combustion of the gas continuously in real time directly from the consumer.
Based on correlation analysis of quality of natural gas proved that the heat of combustion of natural gas is a function of parameters such as speed of sound in natural gas and carbon dioxide content.
Therefore been developed a new method and device for determining the heat of combustion of natural gas, which takes into account not only the content of combustible components in natural gas, as well as content and combustible components.
On the basis of a new method developed device that enables fast (up to 5 minutes), the determination of heat of combustion of natural gas. Also, the device can be operated continuously (in real time) in both laboratory and field conditions.
Developed device rapid determination of heat of combustion of natural gas have been successfully tested at industrial more than 20 gas distribution stations.

Express method allows to determine the heat of combustion of natural gas without determining the full composition of the gas component (as in the method of gas chromatography), and without burning the gas sample (as in the calorimetric method). The method can be applied not only to the gas transmission companies, as well as the consumers of gas, for example, in the metallurgical complex, where it is necessary to carry out continuous monitoring of temperature smelting. Determination of heat of combustion of natural gas by a new method can significantly reduce the time of the study, as well as financial costs of his conduct. It can help you carry out a continuous determination of calorific value of gas not only in laboratory conditions, but also the consumer.

The results of correlation analysis indicated overall that the calorific value of gas is a nonlinear function of the complex parameters such as speed of sound in the gas, nitrogen and carbon dioxin. To test the method were applied artificial neural networks (ANN). The input to the network obtained from the modified database 95 sets of samples of natural gas, the values ​​obtained with a chromatographic method.
To train the ANN was elected the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm, because its application is recommended for cases where the network and the number of training pairs in the plural are small.
To confirm the ability to implement the proposed method, a study was conducted on the real values ​​of the parameters of natural gas from natural gas certificates, which are defined at one of the Ivano-Frankivsk region. Were received eight certificates of quality parameters which were determined by chromatographic methods.
Industrial testing of the experimental setup controls the heat of combustion of natural gas successfully conducted on the basis of OJSC "Ivano-Frankovskgaz" and SE "Ivano-Франківськстандартметрологя." Reduced to the range of error in the determination of heat of combustion of natural gas is 1.6%.
